Custom rally raid helmet design created for Yazeed Al-Rajhi and Timo Gottschalk for the Dakar Rally.
This was one of the most important helmet design projects in our portfolio - created for Yazeed Al-Rajhi, one of the leading Saudi rally raid drivers and later the first Saudi Arabian driver to win the Dakar Rally in this helmet!
The goal was to create a custom helmet design that felt personal, professional and strongly connected with the Yazeed Racing identity. For a project at this level, the helmet could not be just another racing graphic. It had to work as part of the driver’s complete motorsport image — visible inside the car, in media photos, during Dakar Rally coverage and across team communication.
The design was adapted to the Yazeed Racing logo and the colours strongly associated with the driver. We also included Arabic-inspired graphic accents based on the Jameel Motorsport visual identity, giving the helmet a stronger regional and personal character without making the overall design too complex.
The composition was built around clean racing shapes, strong contrast and a balanced layout across the curved helmet surface. Every section had to work from multiple angles — front, side, rear and top — while keeping the design sharp and readable in real rally raid conditions.
A Dakar helmet has a very specific role. It is part of the safety equipment, but also one of the most personal and recognizable elements of a driver’s image. In this project, the graphics had to combine brand identity, driver personality, Arabic visual references and a professional rally raid look into one coherent design.
The final helmet was painted by Wunschel, translating the digital helmet artwork into a finished custom painted motorsport helmet.
